Take full control of your ToneX, ToneX One, or GP-5 pedal with MIDI—no complicated setup required. Just connect your pedal's USB to this small, powerful box using USB-C, and you’re ready to go. It powers the pedal and sends MIDI messages to switch presets, tweak settings, and more. Truly plug and play.

How It Works

Each unit features an ESP32 wireless module, a custom 9V center-negative power circuit, USB-C for connecting the pedal, a 3.5mm TRS (Type A) MIDI input, and a 3.5mm TRS (Type A) MIDI Thru. You can also control your pedal wirelessly via Bluetooth or WiFi using a compatible MIDI controller or app.

Polar Pico, Mini, Plus, and Max

Our Polar controllers come in four sizes—Pico, Mini, Plus, and Max. All four models offer the same core features and connections, including USB, wired MIDI input, and wireless MIDI. The difference lies in the user interface options, so you can choose the layout that best fits your rig. See the table below for a side-by-side comparison.

Our version 2 hardware - released in January 2026 - makes these devices even more space efficient and adds our brand new optical switching technology to models with footswitches. This means almost endless life for your footswitches with no mechanical switches to wear out.

    Supporting the Creator & Other Important Details

    The open source firmware for these devices was created by Greg Smith, who has generously supported the production and sale of these products. Your purchase also helps financially support his open source project and continued maintenance of the project. 10% of all sales revenue is sent directly to Greg.

    Disclaimer: The ToneX One doesn’t officially support MIDI control, so this product works by translating USB messages—just like the ToneX app sends—and triggering them via MIDI using onboard code. It works reliably today, and the same approach is used by others in the community.

    However, a future firmware update from IK Multimedia could break this functionality. The open-source project powering this controller has kept pace with changes so far, but we can’t guarantee future compatibility. Because this relies on a third-party project, PIRATE MIDI can’t offer returns or refunds if future ToneX updates make this control method stop working.

    The same process is used for the Valeton GP-5 and the ToneX pedal. Non-MIDI protocols are reverse engineered to allow deeper MIDI control.

The one-hand operation makes such a difference, especially when you’re cooking and your other hand is busy. Just press a button and it works effortlessly. One thing that really surprised me is the adjustable grind settings. I didn’t think I’d use that feature much, but now I actually notice the difference depending on what I’m cooking. The grind is consistent, and it really helps preserve the flavor of the spices. The charging base is another big plus. Not having to deal with batteries is such a relief, and they charge pretty quickly. I just keep them on the base, and they’re always ready to go. I also really like the LED light. It might seem like a small detail, but it’s actually very helpful when you want to control exactly how much seasoning you’re adding. And honestly, they also look great. They add a modern, organized touch to my kitchen, which I appreciate more than I expected.     You don't think it will change your life, but it will.

    Had this grinder set for almost a year now and I, and my girlfriend can easily say we love these things. It genuinely makes cooking so much easier as salt and pepper are core foundations of seasoning. We've used these almost everyday, for all meals 2-3 times day and we have ZERO complaints. We love fresh cracked pepper but hate those small containers that you hand crack with, I'm looking at you McCormick. Need to season some steaks? Use these and in few seconds boom you're done without any straining whatsoever. The setup is super straightforward and extremely simple. The containers do NOT come pre-filled with either salt nor pepper, however you can pick these up from say walmart for only a buck or two. Once you filled the containers, on the bottom of the grinders, you can easily select the grinding size that you want which is freaking awesome. Again for my steaks I like a bit bigger size of salt / pepper, however if I'm doing say an omelette I want something a bit finer. The charging base is awesome, however I will say these hold a charge for quite a while. We didn't charge these for over a month and they're still working hard. I believe the grind speed is perfect as it's not too slow nor too fast where I have to worry about over-seasoning my food.

    They grind well, but have design flaws

    These worked great for a few months, but then minor inconveniences became bigger issues. While I initially liked these a lot...I would not purchase units with this design again Pros: These do grind well and have good adjustments to grind size. The battery lasts plenty of time for a long cooking session Flaws: -because the grind comes out the bottom the base fills up with bits and grinding dust very quickly -the location of the button inevitably leads you to pushing the button unintentionally when returning to the base -the charging contacts are very small which means the smallest amount of material in the base makes the grinder sit crooked...and not charge -in the past few weeks one of the seals on the bottom no longer will sit flush in the unit...which if course makes it sit crooked in the base and you guessed it...it won't charge. It seems to get a little worse as it is used more and I am waiting for it to basically become so bad it won't work at all anymore The amount of material in the base in the photo is from probably 3-5 days of daily use.
