Distinctive Features and Growth Habit

Anthurium watermaliense is a terrestrial aroid native to Central and South America, found in premontane and lower montane rainforests. This species is recognized for its ovate-triangular, deeply lobed leaves, moderately coriaceous texture, and striking inflorescence. The dark violet-purple spathe and elongated spadix add an eye-catching contrast, making this plant a unique addition to any collection.

Key Characteristics of Anthurium watermaliense

  • Foliage: Ovate-triangular leaves with deep basal lobes.
  • Leaf Size: Grows between 21-60 cm in length and 20-40 cm in width.
  • Growth Habit: Terrestrial, with a short stem up to 25 cm.
  • Petiole Length: Varies between 25-88 cm, subterete with a slight groove.
  • Inflorescence: Features a dark violet-purple spathe and a white to greenish-yellow spadix.
  • Toxicity: Contains calcium oxalate crystals – toxic if ingested by pets or children.

Essential Care Guide

  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect light; adapts well to medium light conditions.
  • Watering: Keep soil consistently moist but avoid overwatering.
  • Humidity: Thrives in high humidity levels above 60%.
  • Temperature: Ideal range is 18°C to 28°C; protect from cold drafts.
  • Soil and Potting: Requires a well-draining mix with orchid bark, perlite, and organic matter.
  • Fertilizing: Use a balanced, diluted fertilizer every 4-6 weeks.
  • Propagation: Best propagated through stem cuttings or division.
  • Pruning: Trim older or damaged leaves to encourage new growth.

Common Issues and How to Fix Them

  • Root Rot: Avoid excessive watering and ensure proper drainage.
  • Pests: Watch for spider mites, thrips, and mealybugs; treat with neem oil, or use beneficial insects.
  • Leaf Yellowing: Often due to overwatering or poor drainage.

Additional Notes

  • Best Growth Support: This species benefits from stable humidity and warm temperatures.
  • Leaf Texture: The moderately coriaceous surface provides durability.

Etymology: The Origin of the Name

Anthurium watermaliense was first described by L.H. Bailey and Nash in 1914 and is named after the region of Watermaal in Belgium.

Nice quality balls for heavy chewers that are easy to clean
Size: 3 PCS, Size: 3 PCS
Nice quality heavy duty balls for strong chewers. I love that these don't have those holes in them that so many balls do that collect grossness and dirt. These are solid and easy to clean. My 9 week old puppy can pick them up and carry them around from the side of her mouth. But the next door 5 year old Labrador is obsessed with them. But then again he is obsessed with balls in general. I just like that these seem to hold less gunk than the others we give him to play with frequently. And they seem to have help up to his chewing just fine. They are reasonably priced for a set of 3 and the colors are nice and visible in the grass which is important. I would be careful to pick them up before mowing the lawn because these are solid and somewhat heavy and I could definitely see a mower just slinging them through a window or off your siding. Overall a nice set of balls that are easy for a human to throw and fit the hand comfortably. They are easy to clean and they are apparently appreciated by the local retrieval expert next door.

Finally, a Ball Our Aggressive Chewer Loves and Hasn’t Destroyed Instantly!
Size: 3 PCS
We’ve gone through more dog toys than I care to admit, because our dog treats them like a personal demolition project! Since she’s a very aggressive chewer, I usually don’t expect toys to last long, so these balls were a really pleasant surprise. They were an instant hit for fetch, chase, and chew time. I love that they have a nice bounce that keeps playtime fun and unpredictable, and the bright colors make them easy to spot in the yard instead of disappearing into the grass. Best of all, they’ve held up far better than many other dog toys we’ve tried. Normally I’m cleaning up shredded toy remains within minutes, but these have proven to be much tougher. Of course, no toy is truly indestructible with a determined chewer, but these have definitely impressed me and earned their place in our toy rotation. If you have a dog that loves interactive play and tends to destroy toys at record speed, these are absolutely worth trying. Easy 5 stars from our house!

Fun and durable toy for dogs of all sizes
Size: 3 PCS
We have three dogs and one of their favorite kinds of toys is balls. These are the perfect size that all three of the dogs can play with them. We have size ranges from pug to Golden Retriever. Even the pug can carry one around. Mostly she just chases them across the floor. They are durable plastic that the dogs can chew on and so far have not punctured. They also haven't started to flake or splinter like some plastic will when it gets older. I like the bright colors because that makes it easier to find in the grass. They aren't extremely hard so if someone inadvertently gets hit with one it isn't terribly painful. They are a good weight to be able to throw repeatedly without getting a tired arm and yet they aren't lightweight so much that they don't go where you aim. When they get too dirty I just pop them in the dishwasher. I appreciate the value of getting three balls in one package.

Simple Dog Toys Done Well
Size: 3 PCS, Size: 3 PCS
Honestly, as far as simplicity goes, this is simplicity done right. Three simple decently sized toys in a nice bright package. They're the right size, they're the right texture, and they feel fairly well-made. They do still have that ugly little manufacturing seam running across them, so that's noticeable, but otherwise they're perfectly fine. No real issues. Nice texture, good variation of texture, and the colors are vibrant. Again, they're the right size. They're firm but not overly hard. Kind of almost like a baseball where there's a little bit of give to them, but not like they're made out of stone. So no major problems with this one. My dog has been having a fantastic time with them over the past few days.

Dog loves these.
Size: 3 PCS
The Velcro Pup (so named because she sticks to my side like Velcro) is a 32 pound Border Collie Mix with endless energy and boundless curiosity. She loves bright colors and ripping the stuffing out of all her stuffed toys and distributing it around the house. To combat that and to give her lots of playtime, I ordered these Rubber Balls. They are soft enough for her to carry around and just the right size for her to pick up and bring them to me to throw. There is a bit of texture on the Balls but it doesn't bother her the least bit. They do get slobbery after playtime but a quick rinse with water takes that right off. I do like the bright colors because the Balls are easy to see in the grass. I also use these to re-inforce training instead of food. Dog goes for it every time.
